Sean Hayes cast as Larry in 'The Three Stooges'

Two stooges down, Moe to go: Actor Sean Hayes will take on the wild-haired Larry in Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s long-in-the-works feature film version of The Three Stooges. He joins Will Sasso ($#*! My Dad Says), who was cast late last month as Curly. While the Emmy-winning Hayes isn’t nearly the physical match for Larry that Sasso is for Curly, he is certainly familiar with old-school slapstick, from his time on Will & Grace to his performance as Jerry Lewis in the 2002 CBS TV movie Martin and Lewis. The Farrelly brothers are reportedly gunning for a mid-April start for the project, which would mean that a casting decision on the pivotal role of Moe may be close at hand.

This is starting to sound really really interesting. Sasso as Curly is genius.

I just saw the movie and the whole theater was roaring with laughter and cheered & applauded at the end. The casting was PERFECT! If you’re a Stooges fan or a fan of slap stick in general – you’ve got to see this movie!

Is this some kind of dramatized biopic of the The Three Stooges or is this a film that will be like an act of the Three Stooges…I really want to know.

    • Mr. Holloway

I believe it’s the latter…and that it’ll also take place in the present day.

  • Daniel

Srsly?!? A three stooges reboot? Can’t any Hollywood writer come up with something new and fresh anymore? >.<

    • jimmycurry01

Has a Hollywood writer ever actually come up with anything new and fresh? When you break down any plot to its simplest form, it has all been done before.

  • ngawt

this went from benicio, jim carrey, and sean penn to loserville faast.

    • mike

The only thing Mr. Hayes can do wrong is try to please a lot of bozos. He is an excellent choice. You could do better maybe. No way.

      • connor

are you his boyfriend, mike? sounds it.

      • mike

If I were I would be eternally grateful. Who do you love? Michael Jackson? Such an obvious choice.

    • DTO

Yeah, it was looking, oddly enough, like they were going to make a THREE STOOGES “prestige” pic. How weird would that have been?

      • Jason S

NO I couldn’t do better but nearly 99% of the actors in Hollywood could. They should have cast is with them as teens and had Michael Cera as Larry, Jonah Hill as Curly, and SHia Lebuff as Moe.

  • Lisa Simpson

Neal Patrick Harris should play Moe since he already is one.

    • Chris

This from someone who blows on a saxophone all the time.

    • mike

Spoken like a real bottom feeder. NPI

    • Summer

Oh, sweetie. Wrong kind of ‘mo. Go learn some spelling, okay?

  • Kalie

This sounds like a tremendously bad idea.

  • Jeff from Jersey; yes New Jersey

It took me a few seconds to think about this and it boils down to this. The man is funny. If anyone can represent Mr. Fine;; it is the comic genius of Mr. Hayes. So spread out, you Knuckleheads and let*s see who*s going to play Moe.

  • jury’s out

No!!! Larry is my favorite. Sean Hayes is wonderful, but he looks nothing like Larry!

  • MsSuniDaze

This whole thing feels wrong. What’s next? I Love Lucy reboot?

John C. Reilly could be a fine Moe.

  • Grace

I think Sean will do GREAT!!!

  • Tye-Grr

    This whole project is DOA.

  • walrus

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • heather

Larry Joe Campbell from According to Jim would make an awesome Stooge!!!!!!!!

    • pie thrower

I’m with you Heather. That guy does not get enough props.

All I can say is this movie better have an outrageous PIE FIGHT!!!

    • a

as painful as that show usually was, i have nothing but praise to give larry joe campbell for his physical comedy in it. and, while i wouldn’t think of him, i think he would’ve fit nicely as a stooge. obviously he doesn’t look as much like curly as sasso does, but i think he is a little underrated as a physical comedy big man.

  • Jerry

Wow, I’m surprised they’re actually casting White guys….. “The Honeymooners”, anyone?

Next, Will Smith to play John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, and Ted Kennedy opposite Queen Latifah as Jackie Kennedy and Beyonce as Marilyn Monroe……

    • Jenny

What ever happened with searching and hunting for new actors who look like the real Stoogie´s, that are funny and can act?
