Mandy Moore and Kellan Lutz experience 'Love, Wedding, Marriage' in Dermot Mulroney's directorial debut

If there’s anyone that goes strolling down the beach hand-in-hand with romantic comedies — well, other than Kate Hudson — it’s Dermot Mulroney. The guy has run the on-screen love gamut of everyone from Julia Roberts to Claire Danes (in both The Family Stone and the sadly fictitious Coming Up Daisies, from Burn After Reading.) So, it’s hard to believe that Mulroney is only just now getting around to directing his first film in that particular genre.

The trailer for said flick, Love, Wedding, Marriage — which features the rom-com-ready cast of Mandy Moore, Kellan Lutz, Jane Seymour, James Brolin, Alyson Hannigan, and Jessica Szohr (but not you, Michael Weston, we still remember what you did to David in Six Feet Under!) — hit the Web today, and even though he’s behind the camera, Mulroney’s familiarity with the source is everywhere.

In it, Moore plays a newlywed (don’t be alarmed, this isn’t License to Wed) who also happens to be a marriage counselor. Things start to go a little haywire when her parents (Seymour and Brolin) announce they are going divorce at the same time she learns her new hubby (Lutz) had been engaged once before. We’re guessing this all is isn’t something a little good lighting, pop rock soundtrack, and a egregious Kellan Lutz six-pack shot couldn’t fix.

This makes me sad for the state of RomComs. And I really love a great RomCom.

Mandy Moore is underrated as a comedic and serious actress. I’m SO happy to see her being utilized well here. (Her songwriting and singing are also great).

    • Marissa

I totally agree! I’m a huge Mandy Moore fan. Maybe her movies haven’t been critical darlings so far but I think she’s highly underrated as an actress.

  • Jack Reigert

I hope Mandy Moore and Jessica Szohr do more mainstream movies from now on. It would be good if they appear in the new Superman, Avengers or Star Trek movies.

    Mmm Kellan.

    • joshii

You can say THAT again. I don’t really like his smile or his looks, but he definitely has a sexy body.

  • katie

Wow. There isn’t a single thing in that trailer that makes me want to see that movie. Ick.

  • Chelsea

I wish Mandy had been cast as Rachel in “Something Borrowed”. She deserves better romcom material than what this looks like! And Kellan Lutz? Blegh, I can’t take him seriously in anything.

  • ziggy

Kellan Lutz’s hair color is SO distracting!

    • Maggie

ugh i agree!! that’s a GREAT cast, but I hope the movie is better than the trailer. i give mandy moore props though, she’s really become a good actress, though is it just me or do all of her characters end up sounding alike?

The hair color is to distract from his bad acting. So job NOT well done? Poor Mandy Moore, she actually has talent. Kellan Lutz can’t act his way out of a paper bag. Even his smile is creepy.

      • Will

I agree, they might as well have got a cardboard cutout of Lutz and had him do all his dialogue in ADR. No emotion this guy

I love the fact you mentioned the guy from Six Feet Under every time I see him in something I think of David and the van episode. hahaha Traumatized!!

  • LillyCB

I think that given the fact that you work for a web magazine or whatever it is you call it now-a-days, you could have better grammar and spelling… Specially considering how you guys manipulate us into gong to watch what you think is good… having said all of that, I really want to see this movie. I’m particularly interested in the Alyson Hannigan and hubby scenes… Happy night!

  • rebecca

Yay!! Jane Seymour, James Brolin, Mandy Moore!!!

  • sarah

Anybody else catch the Alyson Hannigan/Alexis Denisof cameo??? I’d see it just for that!

    • AT

Yup. That was the most amusing/interesting part of the whole preview.

    • Ashleigh

      Yes!! Whoo hoo!!
