It’s not quite Avatar, but this is certainly news Disney can’t be blue about: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has become the fourth highest grossing film of all time overseas. The magic number? $695.9 million. The three films that have bested it (thus far): The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, with $742.1 million; Titanic, with $1.2 billion; and Avatar, with a whopping $2 billion.
The Johnny Depp-starring movie isn’t doing half bad in the states either, raking in $211 million, bringing the Disney film’s global box office total to $907 million, the highest of any film in 2011. Now, if only those 3-D numbers could increase. Still, that’s a lot of rum.
