Teen Choice Awards nominate 'Twilight' and 'Harry Potter,' surprising no one

It’s the question we’ve been asking ourselves since the dawn of the ages. And this year’s Teen Choice Awards dares to ask the life-altering query again with their 2011 nominations: Which is better? Foppish vampires who deliver terrible pick-up lines about spider monkeys, or teenage wizards who bring in more cash than you will ever hope to see in your life? That is, Twilight or Harry Potter? The two franchises will face off against each other to win Hollywood’s greatest honor, Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are not the only ones battling for supremacy in that category, however: They must also defeat Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Super 8, and X-Men: First Class.

But the Twilight and Harry Potter are bound to pick up a win in at least another category, since the two franchises boast the following nominees: Taylor Lautner (Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy), Robert Pattinson (Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy), Daniel Radcliffe (Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy), Kristen Stewart (Choice Movie Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy), Emma Watson (Choice Movie Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy), Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (Choice Movie: Liplock), Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner (Choice Movie: Liplock), Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe (Choice Movie: Liplock), Tom Felton (Choice Movie: Villain), Bryce Dallas Howard (Choice Movie: Villain), Kellan Lutz (Choice Movie: Male Scene Stealer), and Ashley Greene (Choice Movie: Female Scene Stealer).

Still paying attention? Then we have a reward for you: Also grabbing nominations at the awards is Kristin Wiig for Bridesmaids (Choice Movie Actress: Comedy), Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network (Choice Movie Actor: Drama), Emma Stone for Easy A (Choice Movie Actress: Romantic Comedy), Joshua Jackson for Fringe (Choice TV Actor: Fantasy/Sci-Fi), Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley for The Vampire Diaries (Choice TV Actor: Fantasy/Sci-Fi), Nina Dobrev for The Vampire Diaries (Choice TV Actress: Fantasy/Sci-Fi), Anna Paquin for True Blood (Choice TV Actress: Fantasy/Sci-Fi), Zachary Levi for Chuck (Choice TV Actor: Action), Ty Burell for Modern Family (Choice TV Actor: Comedy), Steve Carell and John Krasinski for The Office (Choice TV Actor: Comedy), Cory Monteith for Glee (Choice TV Actor: Comedy), Christina Aguilera for The Voice (Choice TV: Personality), Ryan Seacrest and Jennifer Lopez for American Idol (Choice TV: Personality), and Snooki for Jersey Shore (Choice TV: Female Reality/Variety Star). Or you can just make things easier for yourself and check out the list on the Teen Choice Awards website.

I think “Good Luck Charlie” deserved a nomination, its a hilarious show that is more like the 90s sitcoms (Boy Meets World, etc). It has a great ensemble cast

  • Buddymoore

This show is such a joke.

    • Not a Teen

I agree it’s a joke. “House” for best drama? Seriously? And Olivia Wilde makes the list for “House” when she was barely on it all year? Who creates the nomination list to begin with? FOX?

If Twilight beats Harry Potter the world will have gone completely insane. Stupid ditsy fangirls ruining the good films, I honestly cannot see how such utter rubbish can be compared to Harry Potter- they’re not even in the same league as one another.

Twilight is the equivalent to Harry/Draco fan-fiction, written by a poorly educated teenage girl.

In fact I think the fan-fiction would be a more interesting read.

    Okay, rant over -x-

THE TRUTH COMES OUT, HARRY POTTER! what has the youth of today come to.

    • Brooke

Thank you! I am not even getting my hopes up because I know effing Twilight is going to steal all the awards as usual. Mostly because twitards have no effing lives and have time to sit all day and vote repeatedly.

    • Suzette

they probably will they beat Harry Potter at the MTV Movie Awards, Harry Potter only got best villian because of tom felton.

  • Michael

If ‘Twilight: Eclipse’ sweeps the Teen Choice Awards, then ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1′ should sweep the Razzie Awards. You can help make that happen by going to razzies.com and becoming a voting member.

This would be like throwing out my money onto the street, you moron. There are soo many more bad movies than Twilight series but you are blind with jealousy . Hangover2, Transformer, sucker punch, green Lantern, Thor , Priest, Zookeeper, just go with..now you are talking Razzies…but go give these people money because they laugh about you all the way to the BANK. And EW is so corrupt that I do not even read their reviews anymore….and by the way HP should be compared to Lord of the Rings not Twilight….Twilight is just an easy target ..and it will win because its a story for TEENAGERS remember…

      • Michael

I am not a moron and there is nothing worse than a crappy vampire series that steals awards from superior films like ‘Inception’.

    • m1

The recent Pirates of the Caribbean and I Am Number Four were far worse than the Twilight movies.

      • Blackout

No Twilight is def the worst

      • cool

        Beastly..OMG..close to throwing up..worst ever

  • PJ

Didn’t they just have the Teen Choice Awards on MTV a few weeks ago?

It’s the “Teen” choice awards. Obviously Twilight will win. Twilight has very little appeal outside the teen demographic (of course you have the few middle aged women who read it too.) Harry Potter appeals to teens, young adults, adults… well a lot more people. Twilight fans tend to care way more about these dumb award shows than Harry Potter fans so it will probably win.

  • Suzy

No offence but the Teen choice awards and the MTV Movie awards has literally gone to the dogs, How can something so lame like Twilight beat Out the Amazing Fantasy World of Harry Potter. If theses awards were based in the UK, Harry Potter would win hands down cause we Brits Love the Story and the whole new world to that of the Predictablity and Boring Twilight Series.

  • Rebekah

As much as I enjoy Twilight, it needs to STOP winning over Harry Potter, especially now that HP is nearly over. Also, as much as I want HP to win everything at the TCA (or at anything, really), I wouldn’t mind an upset by “X-Men: First Class.” That movie was EPIC awesome! Love me some James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender!

    • cool

X-Men was bad ,sorry and James with his puppy eyes isn’t really good in that movie

  • lorena

As much as you guys hate it Twilight is going to sweep Harry Potter no doubt about. I’m not going to be all defensive and say Harry potter sucks and what not All I want to say is to the people who have no problem talking s@#t about twilight Have you actually read the book?? I for one have not read Harry Potter so tht is why Ikeep my mouth shut and respect what other people like I will also admit the Twilight movies do suck but the people is weel written and I believe Harry Potter fans should give it a chance. I mean is it impossible to like both????

    • Sabrina

I’ve read both series and, in my opinion, Twilight and Harry Potter really can’t be compared. Twilight is aimed at women and teenage girls. Harry Potter is aimed at a much larger audience. When it comes down to it, Twilight is just a romance series, while Harry Potter incorporates many genres. Now if I compare the quality of writing, Harry Potter definitely surpasses Twilight. I am being completely fair here. I’ve read both series and Twilight is just not that well written. Twilight was more like a guilty pleasure. It was an interesting happy romance without any true conflicts. People are upset when Twilight wins awards over Harry Potter because Harry Potter is a much more thought out and plot consistent series.

    • HarryPotterFanForEver

i gave twilight a chance and it sucks!anyone with brains would be able to tell you how bad it sucks

  • Person

What are teens doing watching true blood?

    • Cassie

Yeah those teens should stay on the Disney Channel where they belong. Seriously? I’m a teenager and I watch True Blood and it’s shown me nothing countless slasher movies haven’t. I’m more concerned as to what teenager would vote for Twilight. Those damn fangirls must do nothing but sit around and vote for their “OMGTOTALLYHAWTVAMPIRES” all day long.

      • Ale

        lmao, Hp <3

  • ana

i like both twilight and harry potter its owsome

  • Amy

NOBODY takes the Teen Choice Awards seriously. Only the Twilight kids do because this is the only time in their lives that they will ever win an award. Let’s be real…Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart aren’t winning any OScars for their expressionless acting any time soon. This is as good as it gets for them. Its just so embarrassing to see people fighting over who should win these awards, as if they mean ANYTHING at all.

    • Blackout

I can’t believe there are award shows where Robert Pattinson is a chosen over Jesse Eisenberg as Best Actor and Twilight is chosen over Black Swan as Best Picture.

  • LizzieK

Glee, Harry Potter, and Pirates will have most of my votes this year…sorry Twilight.

  • Tinyurl.com/teenchoiceawards2011

I was wondering how come adults don’t like this event! But the above comments gave me a hint – they never enjoyed their teen years.

  • Glee

Twilight just might sweep this show because guess what?, Teens, which mostly implies, girls. I’m casting votes for Jared Padalecki (spn) anything with Hp in it, even Tom Felton for best villain(even though he did nothing lol) I mean come on the eff is Victoria from Twilight doing in best villain(>_< she's gonna win)

    Jesse and Andrew ftw!
