Adam Sandler leads 'Hotel Transylvania'

After an almost 10-year hiatus from animation, Eight Crazy Nights star Adam Sandler is making his return as the voice of Dracula in the upcoming 3-D film Hotel Transylvania.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Adam to create a comedic Dracula for a new generation,” said Sony Pictures Animation’s president of production Michelle Raimo-Kouyate. “We have a unique story about that iconic character … that re-imagines Transylvania and its legendary monsters in the way that only animation can.”

In the film, instead of a spooky last-resort for humans, the Hotel Transylvania is a lavish getaway for monsters and their families to escape the human world. Sandler’s Dracula is an overprotective dad who introduces his teenage daughter Mavis to the world’s most famous monsters, including Frankenstein (Kevin James) and his bride (Fran Drescher), Quasimodo (David Spade), the Mummy (Cee Lo Green), and a family of werewolves (Steve Buscemi and Molly Shannon). That is, until an interloping fellow named Jonathan (Andy Samberg) arrives on the scene and turns the Prince of Darkness’ world upside down.

Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Dexter’s Laboratory) is helming the film, which opens September 21, 2012.

I don’t recall Dracula being referred to as the Prince of Darkness at any other point, has he ursurped the Devil and Ozzy Osbourne?

1966. Dracula, Prince of Darkness. Christopher Lee.

So I guess that this is NOT a film version of Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s classic romance-vampire novel HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, written and published in 1978, and which has since sparked more than 10 sequels and/or prequels, following its vampire hero from Egypt of 2000 years ago to the present? Too bad. If it were Yarbro’s story, I’d go see it, despite my vow to never pay money to see Adam Sandler for any reason.

    Genndy Tartakovsky? Sold!

Wait, it has Sandler, Kevin James and David Spade who last teamed up with the abomination that was Grown Ups? Eh…

Hey, if anyone can keep those three in line, it’s Genndy.

Has Tartakovsky ever done CGI? I love his 2D work and this makes me curious how his unique style will translate to the three dimensional CGI world.

It had me right up to Cee Lo Green and Andy Samburg. Nothing aganst them but animation is not where they should be: He belongs on SNL and live action movies/stuff and Cee Lo should stick to singing.

Yeah,I gotta agree with you about Cee Lo.It’s not that I don’t think he should try to branch out into different things, and I don’t have anything against him trying voice over work. The fact of the matter is I can’t see him voicing the mummy. There should always be an attempt made to match the characters to the people voicing them. And as for Samberg,I believe his goofy a$$ could really inject some life into an animated film. There’s someone who really seems like he’d be right at home in animation.

I hate when people refer to Frankenstein’s Monster as Frankenstein. Frankenstein is the scientist.

So you’re saying the 1935 movie “The Bride of Frankenstein” should’ve been called “The Bride of Frankenstein’s Monster”?
