Taylor Kitsch is a man of few words and many pecs. At least that was my takeaway from the new trailer for John Carter, the first live action movie from Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Finding Nemo). The teaser for the outer-space epic keeps much of the movie’s content close to its chest, only imparting a few details with some well-placed mood music courtesy of Peter Gabriel by way of Arcade Fire. More details and full trailer after the jump.
In Carter, Kitsch plays the titular Civil War veteran. While the denizens of Earth think he died in the conflict, he is actually transplanted to Mars. There he finds an otherworldly damsel (X-Men Origins: Wolverine‘s Lynn Collins), who is indeed in distress. So bring on the chest-baring body armor and the unreasonably high leaping skills! In a change of pace from your average alien-fightin’ flick, the trailer’s somber, chilling music provides a nice counterpoint to the many action sequences shown.
The movie, co-written by Stanton and Michael Chabon, boasts an all-star cast that includes Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, Ciarán Hinds, Willem Dafoe, and Dominic West.

my only problem is.. its a desert. if theyre going for mars go all out! other than that, looks pretty good!
The little Disney thing at the top of the end logo made me laugh.

It’s ScFi. They can do whatever they want with Mars.
For Taylor’s sake, I hope the movie’s good, but I’m skeptical.
looks dope.
eh…not impressed
Too Prince of Persia like
That’s exactly what I thought. I want this to be good, but I don’t think it will be after seeing the trailer.
Thirded. After all the hype? No thank you.
Riggins!!!
Full Hearts,Clear Eyes, Can’t Lose
Something I wouldn’t normally see, but if Riggins is in it (and shirtless no less), I’m in!
My only complaint is that John Carter is completely naked in the book, and obviously should be here as well.
I will pay to see any film starring Tim or Billy Riggins.
Wow, Barb that makes you an official erdwio in the world of personal finance. But we love weird people because that means you’re not broke like all the normal folks!
ugh…this doesn’t look very interesting but such a high pedigree of talent– Michael Chabon, Andrew Stanton…. will have to wait and see more but as of now there’s nothing that interests me about it
If Taylor is in it- I’m there. So sad to see Friday Night Lights over. One of the best shows on T.V.
Haha, after reading some of the comments, I notice the guys are more critical of the actual concept, while the ladies are on board simply b/c of Taylor Kitsch. I wouldn’t think the female audience would be their hook, but it just might be.
This is pretty intriguing and I am so excited to see Taylor Kitsch have life after FNL. He is in another moving based on aparthied that comes out soon that looks promising as well. I guess he likes to do movies that take place in the past. Whether past or present I love seeing him have success.
This could be a really good movie, or it could be Star Wars meets Twilight meets Avatar meets Prince of Persia
My only problem with that comment is that the source material for this preceded all of those you cited. If anything, those movies stole from Burroughs, not the other way round.
This looks amazing and it will be.
Taylor Kitsch is an amazing actor and totally fits this role.
With the pedigree of disney pixar and andrew stanton this is definately one to watch in 2012.
The marketing for this movie will be incredible ,I am exited now…
