Captain America is back to the future: Marvel teases 'Avengers' online with Cap's last scene

It’s generally considered counter-productive to give away the ending of your movie, but in the Marvel universe, the conclusion of any movie is just a segue into the next chapter of superhero adventures. Starting with Iron Man, their films have always unveiled a mysterious character after the closing credits. Now it’s Captain America’s job to bring them all together, and Marvel is showcasing the last scene of the film and a peek at the post-credit tease to help set the table for next’s year’s superhero summit, The Avengers. Take a look at the scene here, as Cap finds himself in Times Square after some time lengthy R&R.

Admit it, there’s no real spoiler here for anyone who knows how to navigate the internet. For those who’ve already seen the movie in theaters, this now allows them to freeze-frame the quick-cuts to better enjoy Thor’s biceps, Cap’s new threads, and Bruce Banner’s shirt — yes, it’s purple.

    Why not?

It’s better than having to endure darkened, shake clips on YouTube that people filmed with their phones.

As exciting as this was, I can’t help but wish that Captain America had been a standalone. I loved the period adventure, and want to see more of that, not a sequel in the present day. Excited for The Avengers though!

That was weird that EW had to link it in itself instead of just embedding it in this article.

In the comics, Banner and the Hulk’s PANTS were purple, not his shirt. It was actually a gag in “The Incredible Hulk.”

What l love is that Bruce Banner got re-cast.

      Again.

Avengers is going to suck. I can feel it. With Whedon directing, I know it.

ah yes, that good ole gut feeling that stephen colbert jokingly uses all the time? keep usin’ that truthiness, necro, it’ll get ya far!

I fail to see the excitement of the drab that Marvel has brought out. They should have stopped with X2. Everything else has just been dull and predictable.

    • Brian

So stop watching them then. No one cares

      You’re a s— head.

  • Watcher

Funny, I went to a press screening, but the tag didn’t play after the credits rolled. I thought, or decided to think, that the Cappie-in-New York footage was the tease. I guess, for once, the press screening wasn’t all that, huh.

I saw this in the theater. The most frustrating part is that after marvel makes you sit through endless credits, they gave us a teaser where they flashed images so fast you could barely register what you’re seeing. I’m going to need more of a payoff to sit through all of those credits again.

I am so excited to see this movie!!!

  • Clarke

The real post credit scene was actually a lot longer. Cap’n beating up a boxing bag and Fury asking him to be a part of something. Then we see everyone with conversation and also a quick flash of Loki.

  • Jeff

My Dad & I loved Captain America. THE AVENGERS will be fantastic. All my haters can kiss my ass!

  • harry

    Bloody amazing!!!

  • Justin P.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the Avengers.
