Natalie Portman has turned down a starring role in the drama Adaline — the same part that was ditched by Katherine Heigl last year. A rep for Portman tells EW that the the Black Swan star was offered and declined the lead role of a woman who mysteriously stops aging after a freak accident. The project previously had a March 2011 start date when Heigl was attached along with director Andy Tennant (The Bounty Hunter, Hitch), but it was put on hold when the actress withdrew last November. Portman, 30, has yet to pick a film since winning an Oscar in February and giving birth to her first child in June, although she has stayed in the public eye thanks to in-the-can movies like Thor and Your Highness and a high profile ad campaign for Miss Dior Cherie perfume.

It’s time to start a poll:
Keira Knightley or Natalie Portman
Who would you?
Why not both?
Neither. I like girls that actually have breasts.
Nobody has the sex with you Larry. Admit it.
Awful, but highly high-larious, both of you.
Neither. Most people would probably snap them in two.
I would like to put that to the test.
i agree dusty
They’re both gorgeous women.
Too bad they can’t act worth a darn.
Much more interesting thread than those that follow. Both is my answer also.
Knightley is much cooler and down-to-earth in real life, but Portman is by far the ‘sexier’ of the two. Both are equally gorgeous in my opinion, but if I had to choose one, I’d choose Knightley, simply because Portman is a grade-A snob.
Who could tell the difference?
i feel sorry for her! i mean yeah she won an oscar but now everyone is going to critize her when she doesnt do a oscar worth film. I love her as an actress though so ill be watching anything shes in!
The newly minted Oscar winter won’t take sloppy seconds from that tv actress.
Oops. ‘winner’
how bad must this script be for so many out of work actresses to turn it down, that’s what I would like to really know????
Here is hoping she turns down every role until she is 50. Her little girl voice and vibe drives me mental.
You could always, you know, just NOT go to the movies she’s in …
It sure must be one stinker of a script.
It sure must be, Tom. These actresses are in some pretty awful movies. The script for Adaline might be even too awful for Jessica Alba or Kate Hudson to star in.
nothing is too awful for Kate Hudson to star in. All they need to do is make this more of a paint by numbers romantic comedy abotu a woman who stops aging. I can picture the dialog already “it’s awesome not aging, all my clothes that are out of style will be back in one day! Now if only I could find a man to love!”
Who exactly is responsible for all the terrible writing lately out of Hollywood anyways?
Was anyone looking forward to Portman starring in something the lousy Katherine Heigl turned down?
Not surprising. Who would want Katherine Heigl’s leftovers?
I was thinking the exact same thing.
that’s right. portman doesn’t need to pick up hiegl’s scraps
maybe they should offer it to meryl streep next
I imagine her life is pretty intense about now. I’ve heard this was a stinker anyway. She’ll get back in when she’s ready.
Please please please keep turning down roles Natalie. Most overrated actress ever.

Well Natalie has released several films this past year and she just had a child. I don’t think that she will be doing any more projects for a few years because I think she just wants to stay low-profile and spend time with her family. I think that she has made that clear and has rejected any roles that have been offered to her recently. Usually when an actress wins an oscar, it is like a milestone so they tend to take a long break before doing any more films.
Natalie is known to star in several movies one year and then dissappear for a few years/
I wonder why an african american actress isn’t considered. There are many black actresses out there that could play the part. If it’s a matter of coloring there are some that are light skinned to dark skinned — give a sister a chance!
Halle Berry could do it… she’s already playing the part of a woman who doesn’t age in real life.
seriously has to go to the clor thing again. If the director is lookng for a certain type of actress and she doesnt happen to be the colore people like there is always the idiot that has to bring up color. That irkes me.
Dont the black people have the number one movie in the country right now please, shut it already with the way dont they have a black actor in it instead of a white one!
“Serisiouly”- learn to spell, ignoramus. Your post “irks” me (proper spelling).
maybe black actresses has no universal appeal
The Other Woman
Natalie said she was taking time off after her child was born.
Plus, why would she want Heigl’s leftovers?
Didn’t she say she was going to break from acting for the first year or so of her baby’s life? And like she couldn’t do better then taking Heigl’s leftovers? Please! That sounds like a cool idea for a movie but then they add the director of The Bounty Hunter and you know it’s not going anywhere deep.
