Back in 2009, Oscar host Hugh Jackman dragged Anne Hathaway on stage for a sensational Frost/Nixon duet. Last February, Hathaway had to settle for a solo of “On My Own” from Les Miserables after Jackman, she joked, “bailed on [her] at the last minute.” Well, it looks like the two might be joining forces again soon. As BroadwayWorld.com reported last night, Anne Hathaway is in talks to join Jackman in a film adaptation of the Les Miserables musical. A spokesperson for the actress says that Hathaway is considering playing Fantine, the ill-fated mother of Cosette, opposite Jackman’s Jean Valjean. The King’s Speech‘s Tom Hooper is slated to direct.
In other Oscar-pairing non-news, Hathaway’s hypothetical Some Like it Hot project with James Franco remains a no-go.

Hugh Jackman in talks for ‘Les Miserables,’ but who should he play?

she’d be a better eponine. or they could get emmy rossum…
No, Anne Hathaway is too old to play Eponine. Eponine should be a younger actress, somone who can play a teenager. I like Anne as Fantine…she’s at about the right age.
Anne can do it all.
Except a British accent.
I just saw Les Mis at the 5th Ave theater in Seattle I loved it i hope they do it.
man it was so good! I saw in Seattle as well.
Hoping Jason Statham is cast as Javert.
Does he sing?
Yes! I just want to hear her beautiful singing voice again! Moon river in the Simpsons anyone?
J, yes, Anne Hathaway’s version of Moon River is incredible. It was so beautiful, haunting , and acoustic. Hathaway won a well-deserved Emmy for her voice work on the Simpsons.
Isn’t Kim Kardashian up for the role?
i’d definitley go see that!
Yay! Love Les Mis and Anne Hathaway!
I’ve hear that the multi talented Cloris Leachman is acutally going to be playing Fantine. Sorry Anne. Go find another show.
I hope Anne Hathaway will begin to put the weight back on and return to her normal size with an ample cleavage, fuller legs and fuller backside, after needlessly losing weight for The Dark Knight Rises. She shouldn’t turn into one of those super-skinny Hollywood types.
Just please dont cast Nick Jonas as Marius though,
Did her terrible accent get cast as well?
Why do they need to do it with British Accents. I mean, they’re in France right? If they’re not doing it with French Accents (its silly, I know) then why does the accent matter. p.s. I agree her accent is atrocious in the parts of that movie she’s in.
Haters ! Haters ! Haters ! Anne’s British accent was good in Becoming Jane, and when she did a British accent for her clever impressions of Mary Poppins & Kate Middleton for SNL.
Hathaway has the best singing voice out of all the A-list movie actresses ( including Meryl Streep, Catherine Zeta- Jones, Nicole Kidman, Marion Colltard , and the lip-synching Cher ).
Triple-threat Annie!
I totally knew that she would be up for this role as soon as Hooper was announced as the director. Not only is she one of the ONLY movie star actresses in Hollywood who could actually sing “I Dreamed a Dream”, but she basically auditioned to be in Les Miz with her singing bits at the Oscars (especially the one with her pal Jackman). I will be shocked if she doesn’t play the part in the film.
Please let Lea Michele play Eponine, as she did on Broadway. Please. And also Elphaba.
Lea was cast as Eponine in the revival, but chose to stay with Spring Awakening and take it to Braodway. Smart move, BTW. She did play Eponine at the Hollywood Bowl and, from all accounts, was one of the stand out performances. I wish she cuold do Eponine in the movie, too. Did you see that interview she did for BroadwayWorld.com right before SA won the Tony where Richard Jay Alexander (who directed the orginal BWay prod of Les Mis AND the Hollywood Bowl one, too) told her she would play Eponine in the movie? Great interview. Anyway, Anne might be a good Fantine. We’ll ahve to wait and see.
There’s no way Lea’s schedule has time for this movie, unless the writers of “Glee” were willing to write her out of the show outright for a period.
Interesting choice for Cosette – a bigger actress who won’t get all that much screen time. I’ll take it though.
Did you not read the article? Anne Hathaway is auditioning for the part of Fantine, Cossette’s mother…
I always love Patti LaPone describing this as the perfect role: “On stage for fifteen minutes. Do a great song. Die. Hang around backstage for two hours. Come back as a ghost. Taxi!”
