Once upon a time, two musicians made a movie, fell in love, won an Oscar, and then…who knows? You will if you catch the upcoming documentary The Swell Season, directed by Nick August-Perna and Chris Dapkins. The film follows Once stars Glen Hansard (pictured) and Marketa Irglova’s meteoric rise after “Falling Slowly” won the 2008 Oscar for Best Original Song. Watch your old friends frolic in the ocean and debate the merits of fame in the trailer:

The room was definitely with them when they won the Oscar. Once was a beautiful movie with amazing music… I hope this doc features some songs not on the Once soundtrack.

As a huge fan of ‘Once’ and the Swell Season (the band,) I’m so excited for this movie.
I, too,am a fan of “Once.” Great soundtrack and Swell Season was a great cd.
I can’t wait to see this. Loved Once and the music. The song at the end of this preview brought tears to my eyes.

I am so excited. My boyfriend and I have watched Once every year on Valentine’s Day and our anniversary, since it came out on DVD. I will definitely be seeing this.
A bit of a bummer knowing they’ve been broken up for a while, though. Watching the movie and knowing they had real life chemistry and were in a relationship was something that made Once really special.

Glen and Marketa are the epitome of good music. I kinda love those two. And this looks epic: I always did wonder how winning an oscar changed their music dreams (I mean, they played at Radio City Music Hall…that’s pretty awesome for a band/singers who weren’t even known before 2007).
I saw this doc at Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and it was wonderful. Very touching, gives you a real intimate look into Glen and Marketa’s personal and professional relationship, as well as great footage of performances.
