After months of speculation about who would play the villain in the next James Bond installment, we finally have an answer, friendo: Javier Bardem. During an interview with Christiane Amanpour on Nightline, in which the Spanish actor talked about his involvement with a charity to help west Saharan refugees, Bardem confirmed that he would be playing the bad guy in Bond 23. “I am very excited. My parents took me to watch the movies and I saw all of them. So to play that is going to be fun,” Bardem said about his joining the 00-franchise. “They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details.”

You can check out Bardem’s interview after the jump.

The film, which is being directed by Sam Mendes, is scheduled to hit theaters in November 2012.

I hope the climactic fight between Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem will knock everyone on their ass.
I am waiting for a good hand-to-hand fight for Bond, not those brief fights he kept getting.
Kurt Angle and Gary Daniels would be good secondary villains. There would be amazing fight scenes between each of them with Daniel Craig.
There could be a fight sequence where Kurt Angle overhead belly to belly suplexes Daniel Craig through a glass wall and later executes the Angle Slam on him as well but Daniel Craig manages to beat him after a long, hard fight.

I love the care you put into this description, you are a true bond fan. :-)

My best friend has just announced her wedding with a great man who is a cele+brity!
        They met-via { Himillionaires&c;o;m }
It is nice club for rich men or pretty girls mate.
You do not need to be wealthy or famous, but you can meet your true love, it’s worthy a try.

Good lord, a 007 movie is not some pathetic wrestling match. Get your ass out of your mother’s basement, and go watch Thunderball.

      • Joe

Exactly. I’ve been disappointed with the past couple bond villains, they aren’t as villainous or crazy as all the villains in the classic bonds.

    • Cris

Not sure what made me laugh harder, Zac, your handle, or your spectacular fight scene ideas. You forgot to have Hulk Hogan show up with the leg drop!

      • Jon

and then Ric Flair straps on the figure four, Bond would be gone

      • Justin Poppiti

And, then the Rock gives Flair the Rock Bottom. Then, Stone Cold gives the Rock the Stunner.

    • Trill

Naked. Oh please oh please naked!

    • Meg

Hey, as long as their fight is “long” and “hard” and shirtless, I’m in. I would love to be the ham in a Daniel Craig/Javier Bardem sandwich.

    • patrick

      Obvious troll is obvious.

      • Peter

        Incorrect meme poster is incorrect.

    • harry

      hELL YES!!!

  • Katie

I hope they film in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas and include several American actors. I’m sure that a press release is imminent with an official announcement for the title, cast, plot, etc.

    • ben

I heard they are filming in India

    • dee123

Bond has always been about the world, not America.

      • A-K87

        I hope Katie is joking

      • Derek J.

He has been in America multiple times. Louisiana in Live and Let Die, San Fransisco in A View to a Kill, plus others.

    • Justin Poppiti

Yes, Katie it’d certainly be nice if many American actors were cast in the film and most of the scenes were shot in America. We’ll see what happens.

  • ObiHave

Great villain choice as long as he gets a better hairstyle than No Country…

    • obviously an idiot

hahaha no he should play the same character from no country. It would explain the end when he just drives off: he was really going to kill James bond! haha

      • Pat

He didn’t drive off, his car crashed, his arm was mangled and he walked off.

  • Michael

im sorry but James Bond is a outdated movie

    • Esox

      Someone missed Casino Royaaallllle.
(Now imagine me singing that. It’ll make more sense)

    • Vince

Yes in a way you may be right looks who playing the role?

    • Mike

James Bond actually isn’t a movie, btw. It is a franchise. So which movie were you referring to as outdated? If you said Moonraker, I’d probably agree with you. (ahhh but I still can’t get enough of a Roger Moore bond flick. Classic lines, unintentional and intentional comedy. Gotta love it.) But the franchise has reinvented itself and continues to be relevant, in my opinion. So, I guess I forgive you?

  • Grumpster

I just can’t see this guy saying something like “No, Mr. Bond…I expect you to DIE!!!” This guy looks more like he’d say “come on up to my polo club sometime.”

    • ew-bot

      It’s all in the inflection.

    • Dirk

Geeze, have you not seen No Country For Old Men? He played one of the most evil and menacing bad guys to ever grace the big screen. I stopped watching Bond films in the late 90’s, they just got too silly, and when Daniel Craig took over, I couldn’t see him as the character, so even the gritty reboot didn’t get me back. But this casting will put me in the theatre seat on opening weekend.

      • punch drunk fool

well you should definitely watch casino royale. I thought it was pretty good

  • ps

I think he will be a great bad guy. And I love watching Daniel Craig, as Bond, he is my favorite Bond.
Javier, is easy to look at also, loved him in No Country for Old Men….I will go see this movie, and it is not outdated, that is only your opinion, and this is mine. peace out……..

    • Pat

I agree, he’s my favourite Bond as well, and I think that Javier is a great choice, he was really scary in No Country.

  • ew-bot

I can’t wait! He was so good in ‘No country for old men’ and for sure can bring the menace of an amazing Bond villain. I really would love another great Bond film, they are so full of potential. If it was as good as or better than Casino Royale, I would be very happy.

  • RBBrittain

The good news is, Bardem’s only the second Oscar-winning actor to join the Bond series AFTER winning his Oscar. (Sean Connery & Benicio del Toro both won after leaving the series; Halle Berry won her Oscar while shooting Die Another Day; and though Judi Dench has continued as M since her Oscar win, her run began before.) The bad news? The other one was Christopher Walken as the villain of Roger Moore’s last go-round A View to a Kill–and he was a last-minute hire after talks with David Bowie fell thru. (Bowie as Zorin would have MUCH better explained Grace Jones as May Day.) Not good company…

  • Jackie

I think he’ll make a great ‘Bond’ villain. As an aside, am I the only one who sees a picture (especially THAT picture) of Javier Bardem and at first thinks it’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan?

    • Zainv

No Jackie. It’s generally known that they are look-alikes.

    • Steven Gaynor

      You are such a ‘comedian’,

  • Vince

Only one problem the last two films were bores,
How can they make it any better when they’re already have ruined the series?

    • B

Yeah, they didn’t have invisible cars….. borrrring. Vince you’re an idiot.

    • Pat

Are you mental?……. I never even considered buying the earlier Bond DVDs, but couldn’t wait to get the last two.

    • Dan

      YOu are right.
With that JB they are ruining the series

  • RyanK

European, deep mysterious voice, has a good history of portraying a villain. Sounds perfect to me!

  • Dan

he looks good…only that they need a JB …that is not bald , ugly and no charm….

Worst casting decision… EVER! This talentless hack could act his way out of wet paper bag. The franchise is truly dead.

    • Justin Poppiti

Talentless hack?? Wow. I completely disagree.

    • Peter

See, Patrick? THIS is the obvious troll.

  • Mincha

    Great choice!

  • solarjet

Can we get Kate Winslet as a Bond babe? (Surely Sam and she are still cordial, kid and all…)
