New 'Girl With a Dragon Tattoo' poster: No nudity, still interesting

The Tumblr site has been posting some fascinating behind-the-scenes images from the set of this December’s big-budget adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, possibly as part of Sony’s officially-unofficial viral marketing campaign. (See also: The suspiciously well-lit bootleg teaser.) The latest post presents a striking new poster image for the film. Eschewing the nude-tastic aesthetic of the previous one-sheet, the new poster simultaneously recalls a ’40s noir and the album cover for the Rolling Stones’ Hot Rocks. Whether it’s studio-produced, fan-made, or a studio-produced imitation of fan-made product, it’s an interesting tease for the film. Check out the full-sized image below.

I tried (centaur4u. eu} and I was NOT HAPPY! The guy I ended up with had the wrong halves, he had the face of a horse and was hung like a man!

I never want to wake up to a horse’s head in my bed again!!!

Let the “The Swedish version is the ONLY version” comments, the “Noomi Repace is the ONLY Lisbeth” comments and the “Hollywood is going to kill this” comments begin below …

    • snot

i wouldn’t say that as much as, hollywood lacks originality. unless they intend to follow a different plan with their trilogy and keep it closer to the books than the swedish version.

      • Ben Pieper

Hollywood DOES lack orginality, David Fincher however does not

      • BC

        “Hollywood lacks originality.”
And it always has and always will. Because of the high costs involved with film productions, executives want to minimize risk for their investments. Tapping into the existing pool of potential viewers from a know successful book, comic, movie, television show, or play is always going to make better financial sense than an unknown script.

    • Big Walt

I thought the Swedish version was good but it didn’t blow me away. People definitely oversell it on these comment boards.

      • K8

I’d take it a step forward and thought the Swedish versions were cheap looking and not very cohesive at all, I’m excited to see what David Fincher does especially since he already stated he was going to actually follow the plot of the book, unlike the swedish version.

      • Delon

The only thing good about the original was Noomi Rapace. That’s it.

    • Peyton

lol Chris you’re totally right. Though i admit i was upset at first when i heard about the American version but all my fears were extinguished when the teaser trailer was released. i have complete faith in Finchers film.

      • legallyblonde

Peyton, I totally agree. The preview is chilling….and a different point of view than the Swedish film. Can’t wait!

    • Lizzie

HA! So true!! lol! I loved the Swedish version and I can’t wait for the US version. I would even be excited for an HBO version and a network version! lol!

    • Liz Lemon

The Swedish version was great, because it was the first time the story was adapted to screen. However, it left out a lot of of the material that made the book as dark as it was. I’m really excited about Fincher’s version, because I think he will go hard.

      • rayhaus

I agree!! The Swedish version is the best. Hollywood can’t hold a candle to the foreign moviemakers!

  • Matt W

I have yet to read the book, but I’ve had it for a couple of years now. I want to see this movie, but I feel like I should read it first.

    • Lil Jo

I used to think that, now I think they always take the book and use it as a coaster for their coffee mug when they do the film. So it won’t matter as much any more.

    • Dash

i would say don’t read it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie based on a book that I read that I actually liked. Normally I’ll see the movie because I’m so fond of the book and it gets botched. Just wait for the movie.

    • Suze

I say read the book first. The best part of the book is the suspense…not knowing what comes next, and the excitement that will leave you on the edge of your sofa for however long it takes you to read it. If you see the movie first, you’ll lose that.
I am so looking forward to this film, I can hardly wait. For some reason, find it more fun to be surprised by the book, so I can just sit back and let the film entertain me.
      Just my humble opinion.

  • Andrea D

Would a shot of her back with the dragon tattoo on her back be unoriginal? I think it would be cool.

    • Rashy

The dragon tattoo in the new movie sits on her left shoulder blade, it is nothing like the tattoo in the swedish film or the book.

  • Nathan

I wonder if Fincher’s signed on for the 2 sequels or if it’s been left up in the air based on the box office this one brings in?

    • thin

He signed on to do the trilogy. The movie has to do well enough to get the next ones made, of course, but assuming that happens, he will be on for all three.

  • axmbc

a friend of mine makes $72 an hour on the laptop. She has been out of job for 3 months but last month her check was $7,587 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Go here m

    • JW

Oh, wow! Can I make that much on a desktop computer, too??

    • wondermutt

Is that like a lap dance?

    • Nana

I don’t have a photographer’s eye, but I rellay like the color photos inside the barn. They clearly capture the subject(s) up close, while blurring but still distinguishing things and people in the background. So glad Rebecca and Craig found Howell Photography!

  • Nina_V

Having read the book & seen the Swedish version, I’m hesitant about this film… but I LOVE this poster and I love that they incorporate the pressed flowers into it as well.

  • Andrew

I, for one, am happy that Rooney Mara is getting her name plastered on these posters and trailers. I’m not some superfan of hers or anything, but I think it’s good to see the somewhat lesser known stars of the film get credit for their work instead of the advertising focusing on the A listers. It infuriated me when Haillee Steinfeld got no credit in the advertising for True Grit, even after her Oscar nomination. So it’s good to see Sony have faith in Mara.

    • Dave

You’re so right about the True Grit situation with Hailee Steinfeld. She was the main character in that movie, more so than Jeff Bridges, yet her name was left off the posters and she was put into the Supporting Actress category at the Oscars, which made absolutely no sense.

      • Serap

This is the rectify Service Times | Welcome Pentecostal Center blog for annoye who wants to move out out most this topic. You note so often its near wearing to discourse with you (not that I real would want…HaHa). You definitely put a new stunting on a subject thats been graphic nigh for period. Respectable clog, but large!

    • Matt

I’m glad her name’s there too. We coincidentally named our daughter Rooney. It might help get my mother off my back about what a crazy name it is.

      • ree

lol – I actually really like the name Rooney. But, being from Baltimore, it is the unfortunate tie to the Steelers that I have the issue with. :)

  • DK

I like this one A LOT better than the first. It wasn’t the nudity that was the problem for me, it was the fact that it was kind of bad.

  • Carrie

    “Whether it’s studio-produced, fan-made, or a studio-produced imitation of fan-made product…”

I actually saw this poster on the “Coming Soon” wall at my local movie theater on Saturday, so it’s real.

    • Antonia

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I like the one of Craig and Rebecca after they were pncoounred man and wife because of Craig’s face and how Rebecca looks so calm and beautiful like in all the pics!

    • Vanesa

Make the custom lines with .lin for now; the parmede lines match the apt.dat spec, so if a line is not in apt.dat, you need to make it yourself. There is not yet a night lit line texture. If you have an art asset that you think would look good with night emissive lighting, please send me a png I would like to see what the effect would be used for.

  • Tiffany

This guy I know is making me read the book so we can go and see the film opening weekend *sigh*. You would think that I would be excited about it, but there is nothing there. I saw the Swedish Versions(which were pretty graphic) and giving Fincher rep for dark material, the initial poster with a naked Mera, I am already uncomfortable. I just don’t know why….

  • LS

Read the books first, they are REALLY good, 2 and 3 are the best. It’s so sad and a bummer the author died so soon, he’s very talented. The movies will never do the books justice, especially a Hollywood produced one.

    • Lily

Agree LS. The book are absolutely incredible. Un-put-down-able. It’s so sad Stieg Larsson had NO IDEA what International Best Sellers he’d written. But they are great. And although the Lisbeth story is the main one, the complexity of all the other stories are equally gripping, imo. Encourage any who haven’t read the books to read them first and then see the films.

  • Tully

This poster looks much softer than the bolder one with her half-naked. I like this one too.

  • Michael

Rooney looks and sounds great as Lisbeth in trailer I saw, but Daniel got Blomkvist completely wrong, sounded pretentious and dumb

    • Russ

Mikael Blomkvist has a strong sense of justice with honesty. However, he is a bit self-conscious. In that respect Craig can bring out the best in himself. Actually, it is hard to play just an ordinary man.

  • A-K87

I hope everyone appreciates the subtle pressed flowers image. Nice touch.

    • Cathy

I had to think for a second about what you meant; thank you for pointing that out.

    • jill

      yeah… i thought that was a nice touch…
