It’s actually happening! The Australian government of New South Wales announced today that the long-anticipated, much-delayed production of The Wolverine will begin shooting this August, in star Hugh Jackman’s hometown of Sydney. Production will eventually move to shoot in Japan, the film’s main location.

The news comes two months after 20th Century Fox scheduled the quasi-sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine to hit theaters July 23, 2013. Last year, director Darren Aronofsky departed the project, pushing back production for a year as Fox sought a new director (eventually selecting Walk the Line‘s James Mangold) and Jackman kept busy with his one-man show on Broadway last fall and filming an adaptation of Les Misérables this spring.

The most pressing question moving forward: Can Hugh Jackman pack on all those muscles again in just four scant months?
