It never seemed like a question of whether or not Sofia Coppola’s latest project would get a distributor, it was mainly a matter of who would pick it up. Wednesday it was announced that A24 had acquired the U.S. distribution rights for Coppola’s fifth film, The Bling Ring.

The New York-based A24 has only been around since last summer, but is already starting to carve out a niche for itself in the world of small, idiosyncratic celebrity indies, boasting a roster of films that includes Roman Coppola’s A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, and Sally Potter’s Ginger and Rosa.

In her four-film career, Coppola has bounced around a bit with different distribution companies, alternating between Paramount Classics, Focus Features, and Sony, each with mixed domestic box office results. Perhaps the shakeup will be beneficial to the financial success of The Bling Ring.

The film, based on Nancy Jo Sales’ 2010 Vanity Fair article “The Suspects Wore Louboutins,” stars Emma Watson and Leslie Mann, and will be released in theaters sometime in June.
