Gareth Edwards, whose Godzilla just enjoyed a monster box office debut, has been tapped to direct a Star Wars film for Disney and Lucasfilm.

The untitled pic will be a stand-alone in the Star Wars universe and has been dated for a Dec. 16, 2016, 3-D release. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) has been tasked with writing the script, but no details are available on what exactly this movie will be about.

In February, Disney CEO Bob Iger teased that there would be at least a few spinoff movies in addition to the trilogy set in the post-Return of the Jedi world. EW’s Anthony Breznican learned that one would be focused on a young Han Solo and another on the galaxy’s bounty hunters, centered on franchise favorite Boba Fett.

While J.J. Abrams and company are hard at work on the first installment of the new trilogy, we have a new film to start speculating about. Edwards, who made his big screen debut with 2010’s Monsters, said in a statement announcing the news: “Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life — join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm.”

Screenwriter Whitta added: “From the moment I first saw the original movie as a wide-eyed kid, Star Wars has been the single most profound inspiration to my imagination and to my career as a writer. It is deeply special to me, so to be given the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing legacy, especially in collaboration with a film-maker as talented as Gareth, is literally a dream come true. I’m still pinching myself.”
