A live-action Alice in Wonderland worked. So did a re-imagining of Oz: The Great and Powerful.

So, on the heels of Maleficent‘s magnificent box office debut, Disney is set to go forward with another live-action take on one of their animated classics. This time, it’s Beauty and the Beast, and Dreamgirls helmer Bill Condon is set to direct, sources confirm to EW.

It’s a tale as old as time.

Disney adapted the tale of the bookish girl forced to live with a mysterious beast in their 1991 animated classic, which Maleficent scribe Linda Woolverton wrote. But Evan Spiliotopoulos (The Lion King 1 1/2) is writing the screenplay for the update, according to Variety, which first reported the news.

Plot details are unknown at this point, but Disney does not seem to be slowing down in mining their animated classics for new, live-action takes. They’re currently developing The Jungle Book, with Jon Favreau in the director’s seat, while Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, starring Lily James, is set to hit in early 2015.

Condon, who won a screenwriting Oscar for Gods and Monsters, also directed Kinsey, The Fifth Estate, and Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2 in the Twilight saga.
