Sarah Jessica Parker replaces Demi Moore in 'Lovelace' -- EXCLUSIVE

Filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman tell EW that Sarah Jessica Parker has stepped into the role of feminist icon Gloria Steinem in the pornstar biopic Lovelace, replacing Demi Moore, who dropped out of the film this week.

It has been a unsettling couple of days for the film, which stars Amanda Seyfried as X-rated actress Linda Lovelace, who became a household name after her 1972 sex film Deep Throat went mainstream. Epstein and Friedman (Howl) announced Moore was joining the project on Jan. 2, but she had not yet shot any scenes for the movie. READ FULL STORY »

Fox Searchlight calls 'Black Swan' lawsuit 'meritless,' 'opportunistic'

Fox Searchlight Pictures responded dismissively to the lawsuit brought by two unpaid interns who worked on Black Swan, claiming that the accusations are meritless because the plaintiffs never officially worked for them. Alex Footman and Eric Glatt had filed a lawsuit in Manhattan last week, claiming that Fox Searchlight had violated work laws with the not-uncommon industry practice of unpaid internships. According to their lawsuit, as reported in the New York Times, labor rules required that unpaid interns receive hands-on educational experience, not the menial tasks — such as fetching coffee and taking out the trash — that interns are routinely assigned. “The only thing I learned on this internship was to be more picky in choosing employment opportunities,” Footman, 24, told the Times. “Black Swan had more than $300 million in revenues. If they paid us, it wouldn’t make a big difference to them, but it would make a huge difference to us.”

Fox Searchlight didn’t address the specific workplace charges since their stance is essentially, “It has nothing to do with us.” In a statement, the studio said: READ FULL STORY »

Natalie Portman's 'Black Swan' double on '20/20': Filmmakers are 'completely lying'

The Black Swan controversy keeps on spinning. In an interview with ABC’s 20/20 that aired Friday, Sarah Lane — the dance double who has contended Portman did “5 percent” of the full-body dancing in the film — said that the filmmakers who have come to Portman’s defense are “completely lying.” Director Darren Aronofsky said in a statement last month that, of the 139 dance shots in the film, 111 are of Portman “untouched,” while 28 are of Lane: “If you do the math, that’s 80 percent Natalie Portman.”

“I’m not speaking because I feel like I should be heralded,” Lane said to 20/20‘s Elizabeth Vargas. “I’m speaking because [the filmmakers] are completely lying about the amount of dancing Natalie did in the movie. When those incorrect things are coming out, and they threaten the entire principle of ballet, then I feel like I need to say something.” Lane also said she “expected” Portman not to thank her in her Oscar acceptance speech, and that she doesn’t feel “all disgruntled” by the omission. Black Swan star Natalie Portman makes her first post-Oscar movie appearance this Friday in the stoner comedy Your Highness. She’s also developing Best Buds, a buddy comedy about a marijuana-laced road trip, with her production company Handsomecharlie Films. But just because Portman is taking the high road in her work doesn’t mean she’s doing so in real life, too.

“I love stoner comedies. I smoked weed in college, but I haven’t smoked in years,” Portman told EW in December, a few weeks before announcing her pregnancy. “I’m too old. I wish I was that cool, but I’m like an old lady now. I’m in bed by 10 p.m. I can’t do that anymore.” READ FULL STORY »

A claim by Natalie Portman’s ballet double from the movie Black Swan alleging that the Oscar-winning actress did not perform the majority of that film’s dance sequences has quickly been challenged. Sarah Lane, the American Ballet Theatre soloist who doubled for Portman during some of that film’s most difficult dance sequences, told Entertainment Weekly that the Oscar-winning actress did only 5 percent “of the full body shots” in the film. But the filmmakers insist that simply isn’t the case, saying in a joint statement released by Fox Searchlight, “We were fortunate to have Sarah there to cover the more complicated dance sequences and we have nothing but praise for the hard work she did. Independent Spirit Awards: 'Black Swan,' Natalie Portman, James Franco among the winners

The Joel McHale-hosted indie film kudosfest — which took place this afternoon in Santa Monica, Calif. — will be broadcast tonight at 10 p.m. on IFC. Black Swan won all four of its nominations, including Best Feature, beating out Winter’s Bone, The Kids Are All Right, 127 Hours, and Greenberg.
