'Texas Chainsaw 3D' star Alexandra Daddario on facing off against Leatherface and those 'Fifty Shades of Grey' rumors

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise has a habit of casting actors on the cusp of fame, be they Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger in 1994′s Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, Jessica Biel in the 2003 remake of Tobe Hooper’s original classic shocker, or Matt Bomer in 2006′s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. The latest thespian hoping to benefit from what we’re going to call “the Chainsaw bump” is Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) who plays the heroine in Texas Chainsaw 3D, which arrives in cinemas this Friday.

Below, the actress talks about facing off against the iconic Leatherface, the forthcoming Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and why the cast members of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia aren’t as drunk as you might think. READ FULL STORY

'Avengers,' 'Dark Knight,' 'Skyfall' qualify for Oscar visual effects nominations

avengers-assembled

Finalists for the visual effects Oscar nominations are some of the biggest films of the year — and some of the biggest bombs.

The main thing they have in common — BIGNESS.

While visual effects have become more common even in smaller films such as Beasts of the Southern Wild or Chronicle, the field is still dominated by big-budget studio behemoths, many of them wearing capes or fighting aliens. READ FULL STORY

'Life of Pi': Five close calls for this 'unfilmable' survival adventure

Life of Pi was as good as dead.

The film adaptation of Yann Martel’s 2001 novel, about a young boy stranded at sea with a ferocious Bengal tiger, had been on the shelf for a long time. 20th Century Fox had already approached three directors, who tried and failed to get an adaptation onscreen before bowing out.

The last best hope was Ang Lee, but while the Brokeback Mountain and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon director spent eight months developing the project, it was the executives at Fox who began to have second thoughts.

This would not be a cheap movie — the budget was estimated around $120 million, and when the studio took a hard look at the project, they realized they had no idea what they were getting in to.

That’s when Elizabeth Gabler, President of Fox 2000 Pictures, called Lee to tell him that it was off. Fox was backing out, and he was welcome to shop the project elsewhere.

It wasn’t the last time he would have to fight for Life of Pi. Here’s how he brought this epic tale of survival back to life, over, and over again.

New 'Oz the Great and Powerful' trailer: The witching hour

Witches, witches, everywhere — but which one of them is wicked? We don’t get the answer in this new, longer trailer for Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful — but the clip does formally introduce us to Mila Kunis’s good witch Theodora, Rachel Weisz’s vampy witch Evanora, and Michelle Williams’s clearly virtuous Glinda.

All three magical ladies are pleased as punch when James Franco’s “Wizard” is dropped into Oz by a mighty tornado; he’s destined to fulfill a prophecy by defeating that still unidentified wicked sorceress. L. Frank Baum geeks will also be pleased to get a better look at the Wizard’s new Ozian sidekicks — Finley, a kind flying monkey (voiced by Zack Braff), and a girl made of porcelain (voiced by Ramona and Beezus‘s Joey King) who’s probably a native of Oz’s Dainty China Country — as well as Munchkins and the Yellow Brick Road. Go off and see the wizard for yourself:
