TRAILER: Amy Adams plays rough with Clint Eastwood in 'Trouble With the Curve'

Amy Adams may play the first character to ever call Clint Eastwood a coward and live to tell about it.

Her feisty turn opposite the veteran tough guy in the film Trouble With the Curve starts out seeming like a slightly raunchy father-daughter baseball comedy, but — perhaps appropriately — the trailer throws a bend into the plot just when you think you’ve got it figured out.

Check out the trailer for the film, opening Sept. 21, below:  READ FULL STORY »

FIRST LOOK: Clint Eastwood back on screen in 'Trouble With the Curve' -- EXCLUSIVE

fl-trouble-with-the-curve

Clint Eastwood is never out until he says he’s out.

Following 1992′s Unforgiven, the actor and filmmaker ended his storied Western career, and that was years after closing the book on Dirty Harry.

When he made 2008′s Gran Torino, and hinted he might be done acting altogether, and seeing as he was 78 years old then, it seemed very likely. He’d already quit performing for every filmmaker except for one — himself.

But when his longtime cinematic sidekick Robert Lorenz took the helm of the family baseball drama Trouble With the Curve (in theaters Sept. 28), the iconic actor was persuaded to step in front of the camera once again — with another director behind the camera for the first time in almost 20 years.

All right, batter up! Check out the first photos of Eastwood’s return to the screen. READ FULL STORY »

Behold 'The Master': Philip Seymour Hoffman surfaces in new tease -- VIDEO

Our first glimpse of The Master focused on Joaquin Phoenix’s squirrely Freddie Sutton. The latest spot for Paul Thomas Anderson’s forthcoming religious study casts the net wider but is no less intense. Anderson once again uses Jonny Greenwood’s spare-to-the-point-of-stress-inducing strum-and-drum orchestration underneath the interactions between Sutton and The Master himself, Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman).

Crackling volatility keeps their tug-of-war relationship taut as the “hopelessly inquisitive” Dodd bores into Sutton’s psyche. He may have smiling eyes and a lovely wife (Amy Adams), but it’s quite clear that Dodd is relentless. But is he a prophet or a Master manipulator? (Or both?) You’re going to need to take a few deep breaths after watching this one. READ FULL STORY »

Since its inception in 1947, the Cannes Film Festival has been the ne plus ultra of international cinema, but rarely has the festival featured quite so many American filmmakers and Hollywood movie stars. The 2012 Cannes festival gets underway on Wednesday with the opening film, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, and over the course of the subsequent 11 days, the festival will premiere films starring (deep breath) Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Stewart, Zac Efron, Shia LaBeouf, Robert Pattinson, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Hardy, Amy Adams, Viggo Mortensen, and Matthew McConaughey (in two movies!), with filmmakers like Anderson, Lee Daniels, and John Hillcoat screening their films in competition for the first time. Meanwhile, DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and the HBO TV movie Hemingway & Gellhorn are both premiering out of competition.

EW’s Owen Gleiberman will be detailing all his thoughts on the great and not so great at Cannes, but here’s a quick primer on what’s likely to light up the famed Croisette, in chronological order of their big premieres inside the cavernous Grand Théâtre Lumière.  READ FULL STORY »

Laura Dern and Friday Night Lights‘ Jesse Plemons also star.

'The Muppets' on DVD: Kermit, Walter, and Miss Piggy play hardball -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

From time to time, Entertainment Weekly is lucky enough to host some of the most famous stars in the industry. But perhaps no special guests have ever created a bigger stir in our New York office than the Muppets, who swung by last week to promote the video release of their latest hit movie. At least that’s what we thought they were visiting to do. Walter actually came fishing for swag, in particular, an advance screener copy of the upcoming superhero spectacular, The Avengers. Miss Piggy had even more ambitious plans, and when she sets her mind to something, woe to the green frog or naive EW editors who stand in her way. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed. Take a look. One of the big stories of this week’s Oscar nominations was the announcement that, for the first time in history, only two songs have been given the nod in the Best Song category: Bret McKenzie’s “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets and the Rio number “Real in Rio,” which was co-written by legendary Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes. Below, Bruce Broughton, who is chair of the Academy’s Music Branch Executive Committee, explains how just a brace of songs came to receive noms and why the situation might prompt a rule change.
