Best of 2012 (Behind the Scenes): 'Twilight Saga' screenwriter explains that twist ending

bd2-battle-02

Twilight Saga scribe Melissa Rosenberg should consider dabbling in espionage. For years, she’s kept a giant secret: how she and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer decided that the series’ final film adaptation would conclude with a thrilling, violent battle scene that — spoiler alert! – ends up being nothing but a vision of a possible future. “It hasn’t been a hard secret to keep, though, because no one suspects it’s going to be any different,” Rosenberg says, pointing out that the scene doesn’t really diverge from Breaking Dawn, the novel: “Fans get the book, but they get a little detour on the way.” Of course, there’s a little more to it than that. Here’s the tale of Breaking Dawn — Part 2‘s shocking battle scene, from conception to screen.

As told by: Melissa Rosenberg

We were filming Eclipse up in Vancouver, and Stephenie and I were having dinner at a steakhouse. At the time, she was debating whether she even wanted to make the fourth book into a movie, and I was debating whether I wanted to continue on with the series. Stephenie knew the book ended with this really tense conversation, and she knew that that wasn’t cinematic. We started talking about the ending, and I don’t know who had the idea [to do the battle scene] first — neither one of us can remember exactly. It felt simultaneous. We just went back and forth and were like, “That’s it! That’s gonna work!” READ FULL STORY

Movie Talk with Owen & Lisa: Final 'Breaking Dawn' 'feels like it might as well be the 15th 'Twilight' movie'

Entertainment Weekly critics Owen Gleiberman and Lisa Schwarzbaum discuss The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2, heading into its second week of likely box office dominance.

“This movie feels like it might as well be the fifteenth Twilight movie,” Owen says. “What I do think works is that they tap into a certain teen-pop, schlock, other worldly, sexually incorrect, neo-Victorian rapture that I think is very appealing.”

“The thing that I liked about this concluding episode, besides the fact that it is the concluding episode, is that apparently, vampiredom has finally made [Bella] dress better,” Lisa says. Watch their whole discussion below!

Intense 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' trailer premieres at VMAs -- VIDEO

Last nights’s VMAs didn’t just bring about aerial Pinks and questionable Kevin Hart jokes — it also gave us a tense new Twilight trailer.

Stars Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Facinelli, and producer Wyck Godfrey — basically everybody but Kristen Stewart, who was in Toronto pimping On the Road – gathered on the stage to present the trailer and thank the franchise’s fans for “their incredible enthusiasm from the beginning until now, the final chapter.”

Clocking in under a short 90 seconds, the new clip packs in two and half minutes worth of action. Bella gets ferocious against a big cat, the Volturi (including Dakota Fanning) get plenty of camera time, and little Renesmee shows up to complete the Cullen family portrait. And also: so much snow.

Grab a sweater and take a look at the chilly new Breaking Dawn clip below:

Taylor Lautner on Jacob and Renesmee: 'It's not nearly as creepy as everyone likes to joke'

We’ve already introduced you to Mackenzie Foy, the actress who plays Renesmee in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2. But we haven’t yet discussed the character’s supernatural link to a certain older man. Jacob (Taylor Lautner), who’s spent most of the series in unrequited love with Bella, has imprinted on her daughter, Renesmee — “imprinting” being the process of which his tribe of werewolves discover their soul mates.

In the past, Lautner has said he found the metaphysical mechanics of it all a bit confusing. But talking to Stephenie Meyer and diving back into the book got him more comfortable with the notion of being in love with a child. “Everybody likes to tease me about it,” he says. READ FULL STORY
