SXSW: Green Day presents world premiere of doc 'Broadway Idiot'

Perhaps the biggest standing ovation given by Paramount Theater audiences all week at SXSW was when Green Day took the stage Friday alongside director Doug Hamilton to present the world premiere of the documentary Broadway Idiot.┬áBassist Mike Dirnt did the talking for the group, thanking the audience for coming to the show. “Welcome to our nightmare,” he said happily, before handing off the microphone to lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The crowd held their breath for a half second, waiting to hear him speak, but instead he tossed the mic to a festival director and the band made themselves scarce.

'This Is 40' deleted scene reveals Billie Joe Armstrong's next solo project -- VIDEO

The best way to make people forget about your recent breakdown? Film a funny cameo in Judd Apatow’s new movie. Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong did just that, appearing briefly in This Is 40 — but his best scene apparently ended up on the cutting room floor.

In this deleted bit from the movie, Armstrong tells record label owner Pete (Paul Rudd) all about a new project on which he’d like to embark: “Have you heard of Norwegian death metal? I thought of taking that and mixing it with, like, Belle and Sebastian. It’s sort of music you can cry to but also maybe burn a church down at the same time.” And from there, things just get weirder. Check it out below — and be thankful that we never actually hear the “music” Armstrong is describing:

'Breaking Dawn': Green Day's music video reveals new film footage -- VIDEO

Twilight fans are having a pretty great week. First, EW brought you an exclusive clip of Bella and Edward from their new cottage, and now, Green Day has released a music video for their song, “The Forgotten,” featured on the Breaking Dawn — Part 2 soundtrack.

The video is full of goodies from the film, including an extended look at red-eyed vampire Bella jumping over a waterfall and running, running, running through the forest with Edward. So much to do, so little time before the Volturi show up! There’s also a fair amount of Renesmee, including some shots of the whole new vampire family around the piano, and — most excitedly for fans — even a tease of big moments like when Bella gives Renesmee the locket.
