Watch Robin Williams in the trailer for 'A Merry Friggin' Christmas'


In one of his final film roles, Robin Williams plays the patriarch of an estranged family of misfits in the holiday comedy A Merry Friggin’ Christmas.

Joel McHale stars as Boyd, a family man who doesn’t actually like to spend that much time with his family, especially his father (Williams). Their relationship is further put to the test when the two hit the road after Boyd realizes he left all of his son’s gifts at home. The film was directed by British TV director Tristram Shapeero, who has worked on shows like Community and Parks and Recreation back in the states from a script by Michael Brown.  READ FULL STORY

Casting Net: 'Man of Steel' eyed for 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.'; Plus, Josh Brolin joins 'Inherent Vice', more

Fresh off the news that Tom Cruise exited the long-gestating production of Man From U.N.C.L.E., it looks like Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) may take on the now-vacated starring role. The Guy Ritchie-directed Warner Bros. adaptation of the 1960s television show currently stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) and Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina). Besides his potentially career-changing turn in Man of Steel, Cavill is also attached to the still-delayed production of The Great Wall. [Variety]

• Director Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master) has added another cast member to his adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice — Josh Brolin (True Grit). The ensemble cast currently includes Owen Wilson, Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, and Martin Short. The report also says that Sean Penn may be in consideration for the film as well. Brolin has wrapped a number of projects recently including Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Spike Lee’s Oldboy, and Jason Reitman’s Labor Day. • Joel McHale, Robin Williams, and Lauren Graham have signed on star in the new holiday comedy A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle. Lorelai Gilmore and Jeff Winger will play a married couple forced to spend Christmas with their crazy extended family. On Christmas Eve, Boyd (McHale) realizes he forgot to bring his son’s gifts and embarks on an eight-hour road trip with his father (Williams) to retrieve them before his son wakes up. British director Tristram Shapeero, best known for directing television shows like Community and New Girl, will make his feature film debut directing the project. [THR]

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is set to star in A Long Way Home, described as an “epic adventure about friendship, courage, magic, adventure and the lengths one boy will go to reunite his family.” Production designer Paki Smith (set decorator on The Dark Knight Rises and Batman Begins) will direct the project.
