'Jupiter Ascending' trailer: Love, war, and outer space -- VIDEO

What do you get when you pair Channing Tatum as the “perfect hunting machine” with Mila Kunis as the wanted earthling named Jupiter? Jupiter Ascending, the next sci-fi adventure from Lana and Andy Wachowski, a.k.a. the people who brought you Cloud Atlas.

The first trailer for Jupiter Ascending revolves around Tatum’s character hunting Kunis and then seemingly falling for her. Kunis seems to be the key to something much larger than most people on Earth can understand. Add in some elf-like ears and a lot of futuristic guns, and you’ve pretty much summed up the trailer.

The Wachowskis' 'Jupiter Ascending' sets summer 2014 release date

Lana and Andy Wachowski’s next film Jupiter Ascending has set a release date of July 25, 2014. Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, and Sean Bean have all been cast in the film.

Although no official plot details have been released, the film reportedly is about a time in the future where humans are one of the least evolved species. Vulture reported last year that Kunis would be playing a Russian immigrant who is dangerous to those in power because she has “genetic makeup” matching the queen’s and Tatum would play her bounty-hunter turned lover.

But for all we know, the film could be like the Wachowskis’ last joint, Cloud Atlas, and just be about everything.

Lana Wachowski breaks public silence to give moving speech about transgender experience

For over a decade after the release of The Matrix, Lana Wachowski avoided the public eye, practicing a Kubrickian anti-press policy alongside her brother Andy. But the director siblings have been slowly pulling back their veil of secrecy in advance of the release of their new three-hour epic Cloud Atlas, first in a teaser-explanation of the movie, then in a lengthy New Yorker profile. Over the weekend, though, Lana stepped decisively into the limelight, giving a speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s gala dinner in San Francisco. Lana — a transgender woman, formerly Larry — gave a moving almost half-hour speech about her personal journey, including anecdotes about being beaten by a nun in a Catholic grade school and a teenaged planned suicide attempt. (Wachowski wrote a 4-page suicide note; she deadpanned, “I’m a little talkative.”)

The Hollywood Reporter has the full video of Wachowski’s moving speech, which also features a deconstruction of the term “transition,” an explanation for the Wachowski’s anti-media stance, and a dynamite use of the word “inculcate.”
