'Texas Chain Saw Massacre' star Marilyn Burns dies at 65

Marilyn Burns, best known her role in the cult horror film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, died Tuesday at her home in Houston, her manager confirmed to EW. She was 65.

Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Texas, Burns pursued acting throughout her schooling and made her film debut in Robert Altman’s Brewster McCloud while pursing a drama degree at the University of Texas at Austin. She appeared in small parts in other projects, but her breakout wouldn’t come till she landed the role of unlucky teen Sally Hardesty in Tobe Hooper’s bloody 1974 hit The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which remains her most memorable role. Owen Gleiberman, in his review the 2003 remake, wrote of the original: “With the exception of Psycho, it’s the only modern horror movie I can think of that’s as elegant as it is relentless.”

Burns went on to star in Hooper’s Eaten Alive and as Linda Kasabian in the Charles Manson miniseries Helter Skelter. She also made cameo appearances in 1994’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D.

Burns’s family has requested privacy at this time.

'Texas Chainsaw 3D' star Alexandra Daddario on facing off against Leatherface and those 'Fifty Shades of Grey' rumors

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise has a habit of casting actors on the cusp of fame, be they Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger in 1994’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, Jessica Biel in the 2003 remake of Tobe Hooper’s original classic shocker, or Matt Bomer in 2006’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. The latest thespian hoping to benefit from what we’re going to call “the Chainsaw bump” is Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) who plays the heroine in Texas Chainsaw 3D, which arrives in cinemas this Friday.

Below, the actress talks about facing off against the iconic Leatherface, the forthcoming Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and why the cast members of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia aren’t as drunk as you might think. READ FULL STORY

'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D' revs up with first poster, awesome tagline

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D isn’t due to be released for another year, but Lionsgate have gotten the movie’s publicity campaign off to an early, Halloween start by releasing the first poster from the franchise reboot-sequel, which you can check out to the left and, in a larger format, below. I’m hoping that the person who came up with the tagline “Buzz. Kill.” treated themselves by taking the rest of the day off.

TCM 3D is directed by John Leussenhop (Takers) and stars Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Trey Songz, and Dan Yeager, who is playing the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. The film will also feature appearances by Chainsaw franchise alumni Marilyn Burns, Gunnar Hansen, John Dugan, and Bill Moseley. “My character finds out that she isn’t really who she thought she was,” Daddario told EW earlier this year. “She’s discovering where she really came from and what she has to do with the family in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It’s more of a mystery than the original in a lot of ways. It keeps you guessing.” Check out the full poster below:  READ FULL STORY

'Percy Jackson' actress Alexandra Daddario confirmed for 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D' -- EXCLUSIVE

Alexandra Daddario has been cast in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, EW can exclusively confirm. The actress, who is best known for appearing in last year’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, will play the lead role of Heather.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is the seventh Chainsaw Massacre movie but is being hyped as a direct sequel to director Tobe Hooper’s infamous, original 1974 film. The movie starts filming later this month in Louisiana, which will continue the franchise’s tradition of being shot in pretty much the hottest conditions imaginable. “It’s going to be rough,” Daddario told EW. “I tried out Bikram yoga, that crazy hot yoga, to get used to the heat. But it’s actually good because it brings a sense of realism to what you’re doing. It will definitely be an experience.” The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is set for release on Oct. 5, 2012.
